Educators are often faced with the challenge of determining whether an English Learner is exhibiting behaviors characteristic of language development or learning disability. To be able to make this distinction, educators must understand the language development process and think critically about factors that influence an individual EL’s development. In this workshop, participants will analyze a few common scenarios and discuss factors that need to be considered when distinguishing between language development and disability.
