ELD Curriculum Development

An essential component of an effective educational program for English learners is an ELD curriculum that aligns language development progressions with academic content standards. This workshop is designed to provide guidance that can assist in the development process. In this session, participants will consider the critical components of an ELD curriculum as well as explore methods for engaging in the collaborative development process. This workshop will take up an approach to curriculum development that utilizes the Understanding by Design framework (Wiggins & McTighe, 2005) and the elements of Universal Design for Learning (CAST, 2018) to integrate academic content standards and the 2020 updated WIDA ELD Standards. Sessions will not be recorded. Act 48 credit hours are available for educators who complete the series.

Intended Audience: This workshop is designed for district- or school-based teams of educators and administrators who are collaboratively engaged in ELD curriculum development
