Teaching with Primary Sources to Engage MLs in Social Studies
Federal and state policies make clear that multilingual learners must have equitable access to the same standards-based rigorous content instruction as all students, and that content teachers maintain responsibility for ensuring their content instruction is accessible to MLs. Participants will review the state and federal requirements that outline content teachers' responsibilities for differentiating instruction. This workshop will examine strategies and scaffolds to support social studies instruction and assessment for multilingual learners. Participants will also explore online primary source databases and discuss how to integrate various types of primary sources into their lesson plans. Act 48 credit hours are available for educators who attend 75% of the session. Session will not be recorded.
